I'd been a copywriter for a few years before enrolling in The Professional Freelance Journalism Course with the British College of Journalism. As much as I love copywriting, I also wanted to write editorial pieces and feature articles - but, truthfully, I had no idea where to start and it seemed a little overwhelming.
I found that the course distils all the facets of freelance journalism into interesting and comprehensive tutorials, covering everything from grammar and writing cliches to pitching and the business side of things. It was exactly what I needed.
It helped answer a lot of the questions I had swirling around in my head and I still go back and reread parts of the course here and there. Plus, there's lots of input from various successful writers and great recommendations for further reading and resources.
Since graduating, I've been published in The Evening Standard and Cotswold Life magazine while also continuing my copywriting business. I've found that having this journalism qualification, and subsequently being published, has been beneficial for my work as a copywriter - clients like the fact I'm also a journalist and I've had new interest from different organisations.
I definitely recommend The Professional Freelance Journalism Course! Whether you're a total newbie or more established, the course provides many helpful insights.
