The Professional Freelance Journalism Course has really changed my life for the better. Following university, I was struggling to find a career that interested me. I knew I liked writing, but had no idea how to make it into a profitable career.
The course covers writing techniques, but I found the most valuable part to be the in depth industry knowledge I gained – such as how to pitch to an editor and follow a brief.
Before I had even finished the course, I was selling articles online. While the income was modest, it gave me confidence that I really could make money from this.
It’s only been a few months since I completed the course, but I already have three streams of income from writing and I’m making more money than ever before. I now earn a living from my laptop, writing online blogs. At the moment, most of my income is from ghost writing. This means I don’t write under my name, but I get paid a decent amount and I can work as little or as much as I like. I am also publishing work online under my own name and have started a new travel blog that is slowly gaining traffic.
The course will be of enormous benefit to anyone with a deep passion for writing. I am now at the beginning of a career that allows me to work from anywhere in the world, doing something that was previously just a hobby. The course is really well structured and provides a good taster of what life as a professional freelance writer is really like. Having completed this course gives you credibility, while the skills you develop puts you ahead of the competition. My personal tutor was really kind and helpful, always getting back to me within 24 hours.
Being a freelance writer full-time is a genuine possibility for many people. The demand for content is endless. You don’t need to be an exceptional writer, just a good one, who is able to deliver what is asked of you to a deadline.
I have a very varied career, but I’ve definitely developed some niches and areas of expertise. This allows me to offer specialised content for a higher fee. I never realised that I could actually do this full time before I took the course. The course allows you to take a part time hobby and start charging for it. This can provide a little extra income outside of your main job. The diversity and flexibility of the course means that it’s suitable to anyone with an interest in writing.
I’d like to thank the British College of Journalism for the Professional Freelance Journalism Course because without it, I’d have never started my dream career.
