After working for over three decades in the world of theatre, film and TV, I decided to ‘go back to school’ and gain a qualification in journalism with the British College of Journalism.
I must say that this was simply the best move I’ve ever made. The Professional Freelance Journalism Course is designed to work around you, fitting in to your current lifestyle and other commitments. There is just enough pressure to ensure that you stay dedicated to the cause with help from a one to one tutor, who assists and guides you as you make your journey into a whole new world.
Since gaining my qualification, I’ve gone onto Broadcast Journalism and now have a regular slot working with a London based radio station, as well being published in national magazines and online material to boot. My first commission entitled ‘How to Make Money from Gold’ for Moneywise Magazine even made front page! Needless to say, I was incredibly pleased with this. My self-esteem and confidence to talk with others has risen, my salary has increased and I’ve even discovered that people take me more seriously, now that I have completed this course.
Since completing the course I’ve interviewed a variety of interesting people from lighthouse keepers through to wingwalkers and I have some exciting projects in the pipeline. With this work, you are never far away from your next great story and I get a real kick from finding out new things to write about.
I thoroughly recommend you take part in the course as you never know where it may lead you. For me, I’ve discovered a side to myself that I never knew I had and life is just getting better every day.
