Sometimes when you arrange to do an interview, the person you are going to speak to asks if they can see the questions beforehand. This will usually be because they are nervous, or it may be because they want to prepare.
As a rule there is general no issue with sending questions in advance. However we recommend that you send questions with a friendly note that there will almost certainly be follow up questions depending on the reply. As a journalist, you don’t want to feel you have to stick rigidly to the questions.
It’s also worth asking your interviewee to write out answers which they will then read out. Just let them know that notes are fine but they will sound much better if they just speak naturally.
If they still seem nervous about the interview, you can also offer to read them the feature out loud when completed (don’t offer to send it to them or they will start rewriting it). Reading it aloud is slightly less risky however they must also be aware that this won't be the final edit, that the publication may want to cut/change your work (not their quotes though) to fit into their space better or to make it more clear.
