Navigating August as a Freelancer: Ensure a Smooth Editorial Collaboration

August is a funny old month for freelancers as everyone seems to be away. It can be hard to find people to interview, or pitch to an editor without getting an "out of office" response.

But bear in mind that it can be a frustrating time for editors too. There's nothing worse than editing a freelancer's copy and needing to check something with them, or ask for extra quotes, and discovering they are away. If it means the feature can't run, that can cause big problems for a publication which will need to find a replacement.

So if you have some copy to send in before your holiday, email it over with several days to spare rather than 5pm the day before you head to the airport.

Write on the top of the email that you will be away from x to x inclusive so please could they get in touch with any queries before that. Editors will really appreciate the advance notice.
