For example, if you’re writing about new dental treatments, you could interview a dentist, and if you’re writing about graduate opportunities, you could speak to a university careers officer.
These experts can talk about their subject with real knowledge and authority. Their quotes will really lift a feature and give it added insight. But who do you decide who to talk to?
The key is finding someone the reader will see as an expert. So, someone who is a student dentist, for instance, would not be ideal. Someone with 10 years of experience, lectures in dentistry, or has written a book on dentistry would be perfect.
One essential tip is to get in touch with two or three experts rather than just one. That’s because you can guarantee not everyone will get back. If two get back, you can interview both of them!
And if you already have what you need by the time an expert gets back to you, you can just apologise and ask if you can keep their details for the future.
