My interest in The Professional Freelance Journalism Course started when I developed a passion for wildlife conservation. I felt the need to communicate issues on endangered species and the reason causing their decline to a large audience.

From the moment I enrolled in the course, my tutor was always at hand to answer any questions I had and guide me to become more confident in approaching editors and selling my stories. The course taught me how to tap into fresh ideas for feature articles. It taught me perseverance and the importance of not giving up (as rejection in this sort of industry is inevitable) along with so many other essential skills needed to succeed in this challenging industry.

It also taught me all I needed to know about effective writing, interviewing skills, editing, approaching editors, pitching stories and seeking payment for your pieces. I particularly liked all the useful tips it shared in each tutorial, with emphasis on how to get noticed among the endless emails and pitches that editors receive on a daily basis.

The course was split out into twelve tutorials with a total of ten assignments. It was very flexible and allowed me to complete each assignment in my own time which worked perfectly alongside my full-time job.

The course gave me the confidence and expertise needed to reach out to high-profile magazines and since finishing, I have written for a number of well-known international newspapers and magazines including BBC Wildlife, National Geographic Kids and National Wildlife Federation magazine amongst many others. The satisfaction you get when seeing your article in a magazine is priceless!

I continue to pitch article ideas to the media contacts that I have made along the way, while also reaching out to new magazines and adapting my pitch to their in-house writing style. I wouldn’t have been aware of any of this had I not done the course. I couldn’t recommend it more. Stop procrastinating and enrol!
